Time Your Perisher Lunch

THE lunch time rush at ski resorts is nothing new, it seems everyone wants to eat at the same time which has is drawbacks. The trick is to time your lunch stop plus look for the best options.

With Perisher having first tracks on the weekend, if you start your day early this works perfect for an early lunch. Why eat at 12.30 with the crowds when you can eat at 11am with more comfort.

Good news this season, new owners at the Guthega Inn have opened for lunch again with a great menu. The venue has always been a favourite, and it will be in demand again. They start their lunch menu from 11am so plan around this time and arrive slightly earlier to snare a table. Who doesn’t like dining with the best view in Australia.

Other Guthega options are the Basecamp Café at the bottom of the double chair, or the Burning Log and at Blue Cow the bistro in the terminal building is a good stop, again just time your stop outside of the rush hour.

Most may not consider it, but leaving the slopes for lunch is far more relaxing and really not much extra effort. Across the bridge from Front Valley and past the Skitube building you have The Man from Snowy River Hotel and the Marritz hotel. Both do great lunches and all with a view back to the slopes.

The Man is a vibrant pub with great food, and on blue bird days sit outside and bask in the alpine sunshine with a tasty burger and pint of the your favourite ale.

The Marritz offers some extra comfort and is one of grand alpine hotels and a quitter venue for lunch. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, just call for reservations.

At Front Valley, the Snow Gums restaurant is another great lunch venue where you can click out of your skis and dine with views of the slopes. The Mid Station is a convenient lunch stop plus has great views of the mountain sitting outside on a sunny day.

The Alpine Eyre and the Pretty Valley Kiosk are on slope venues where you can ski in ski out at Perisher, and the Smiggins Hotel is a great venue for relaxing on the deck for lunch.

The key to all lunch dining is the timing.
