The gateway to the Snowy Mountains and the winter snowfields, Cooma is the largest town in the alpine area and home to the Snowy Scheme, an engineering masterpiece and the Snowy Discovery Centre displaying all of the scheme's history.

Stop in at the Snowy Discovery Centre, where they also have a cafe, or the Cooma Visitor Centre for the most informative staff on mountain explorations. Indulge in shopping on the main street including Birdsnest and you will find accommodation and a selection of cafes ideal for a break before venturing further in your travels.
