Our history

2020

The start to 2020 was not what anyone expected or wanted, as numerous bushfires raged across the Snowy Mountains region, plus at times threatened and burned within towns. Towns on the western side of the ranges were heavily impacted, as were the eastern side of the Snowy Monaro. In January 2020 we provided extensive coverage via our website of all bushfires in our region, often updating several times per day. Local residents were highly praising of our efforts of publishing clear and concise information with no hype. Social media at the same time was offering incorrect and inflammatory information. Tourists were advised to leave the mountains in January, and like the bushfires, this was devastating for a a tourist region.

When covid-19 hit and regional travel restrictions were enforced, the magazine was forced to cancel three publications for the year. Advertisers were very supportive during the restricted winter season which we were grateful for. Like all businesses, the magazine was financially impacted, but continued to publish. Even though the winter season was restricted for capacity, the resorts were very diligent in the way they operated, guests were respective of the rules and there were no active cases of covid-19 in the area to cause any concern. The snow season would finish without a glitch and the region back to some normailty.

To finish the year we were very excited to launch this brand new website.

2019

This year was a good year for the publication to further establish itself as the free tourist publication of choice for not only visitors, but residents alike.  Readers have continued to praise our editorial content and during winter we produce more snow content than any other publication in Australia.

This year we particularly liked our selection of different cover photos, a number of them from editor Steve Cuff. The magazine has always prided itself on having top quality photos, as well as content, and we delivered on this again in 2019.

From a news perspective, 2019 was strong with the Jindabyne Masterplan announced and the Snowy Scheme 70th anniversary. Both Thredbo and Perisher announced new lifts for future years, the Thredbo Gondola and the Mt Perisher 6-seater chair.

2018

Our second year proved to be highly successful. Not only did we increase our pages in 6 out of our 8 editions, Snowy Mountains Magazine was awarded the Start up Superstar in the Snowy Monaro Business Awards. This has also qualified the magazine to contest the same award in the South East region business awards still to come.

It was a huge honour to win this award in only our second year and shows that our publication has been greatly received within the community.

Out of the 8 editions we print annually, we increased pages in 6 of these editions. This can only be achieved with increased advertising and again a huge show of support by the business community across the Snowy Mountains who entrust our publication to assist in promoting their business to region visitors.

The Snowy Mountains has had record visitation this winter and the past few years has a seen a constant rise in year round tourism, particularly in summer and autumn. We are proud to be the leading print medium assisting the region in further promotion.

We are continually striving to improve all facets of our publication and we look forward to a another great year ahead in 2019.

2017

Snowy Mountains Magazine has just celebrated its first year of publication in October 2017.

The feedback from the first 8 editions has been overwhelming, from both an advertising point of view and from readers. We are thrilled that everyone loves the format and the stylish appeal of the magazine. Plus it is available in so many locations, no one misses out on picking up a copy.

In the first year it has established itself as the premiere Free Publication of the Snowy Mountains region, with coverage from both sides of the mountains an added appeal for readers.

2016

In an exciting development for the Snowy Mountains region, a new free stylish magazine covering the area will be released in mid-October 2016.
