Snowies MTB Festival 2021 Wrap

A massive downpour on Friday night was not enough to stop the Snowies Mt Bike Festival, with event organisers moving swiftly to adjust the schedule and switch stages to continue the event.

While the distances in the cross country leg were shortened due to track conditions, it was still a gruelling four stages and three days of racing with Canberran riders Daniel McConnell and Zoe Cuthbert victorious.

In the revised final stage, Daniel McConnell set an astonishing time in the Wild Brumby descent, clocking a time just over 1 hour and 38 minutes for the 35km stage.

When asked about his speed he said, "I am not actually too sure of the speed, I think it was like an average of around 25, which I guess on the mountain bike is about as fast as we get really for average".

"It was really good conditions actually after the rain the other day, the trails are running really fast. Yeah it was good to get out and a have a good hit out, it was mostly downhill so it makes a lot of fun.

Its good to start the year off with a win for sure, no win's easy," said Daniel.

Zoe Cuthbert claimed the female victory for the third time saying, "This race was my first ever elite win, so it's always been a really special race for me".

"I've done it every year since I was 14, which is when i was first old enough to do it, so definite glad to do it this year," said Zoe.

Event organiser Robyn Lazenby said, "Everyone pulled together which was really amazing and that's not just our team, it's the riders, all the local businesses".
