Snowy Trout Challenge Opens For 4th Year

IF you like trout fishing, is there a better location than the Snowy Mountains?

This spring and summer the mountain lakes and rivers will be the place to be. Not just because the fish like to bite, but for big events where you not only catch fish but can win great prizes.

The Snowy Hydro Snowy Trout Challenge returns for its 4th year, the Challenge running from end of September to April 2024 with prize draws for catching and then entering your 2023-24 tagged rainbow trout.

Five hundred large rainbow trout have now been released across Lake Eucumbene, Lake Jindabyne and Lake Crackenback. The fish have been released in several locations as of late September.

The fish range in size between 1.5kg to 2kg and up to 40cm in length.

Anglers who catch the tagged fish and want to enter the draw for cash prizes will need to register their catch and details via the linktr.ee Snowy Trout Challenge website (see links below). You will need to photograph the tag, take a photograph of yourself with your fish, preferably at the water, and enter all the catch information. The fish details are also used for research purposes.

Once you have entered the catch draw, you will be eligible for every draw until the end of season. All entry information can be found via the Snowy Trout Challenge Facebook and lintr.ee page (see below).

The first winner will be drawn later in November, allowing time for plenty of fish to be caught and entered. Subsequent draws will be advised.

Last season there were many happy fishers who not only managed to land some big, tagged rainbow trout, but also lucky enough to then win cash prizes. As they say, you must be in it to win it, so get those rods and reels ready.

The Snowy Trout Challenge started as an initiative of the NSW DPI Fisheries, Snowy Monaro Regional Council, Tourism Snowy Mountains, Lake Eucumbene Chamber of Commerce and the Jindabyne Chamber of Commerce. It is run by a voluntary committee who want to promote fishing in the region.

Special thanks to Snowy Hydro who have supported the 2023-24 Snowy Trout Challenge as platinum major sponsor.

Snowy Monaro Regional Council have also come on board as a major sponsor to help support fishing in the Monaro.

Sponsorship and Prizemoney

The total prizemoney each season is determined by how many generous sponsors can support the Challenge. If your business would like to help promote fishing in the Snowy Mountains, please email the committee for a sponsorship proposal.
