Easter Jindabyne Lake Light Sculpture event cancelled for 2022

THE popular Lake Light Sculpture event held at Easter in Jindabyne has been cancelled.

A statement released by the Lake Light Sculpture committee detailed a number of points that swayed their decision. The event is Jindabyne's flagship event of the year and a major drawcard for the Easter period. The event is also one that the local community look forward to each year but the circumstances involved are justified with Lake Jindabyne's lake level being high all summer, and not likely to recede anytime soon.

The Lake Like Committee Sculpture committee statement released today.

The Lake Light Sculpture Committee is disappointed to announce that the event will not go ahead this Easter. Lake Light Sculpture is held in one of the most beautiful and unique locations in Australia. Showcasing the artworks is at the forefront of the event and the location is currently compromised both visually and in terms of safety, due to the high water levels of Lake Jindabyne.

Cherie McNair, Chair of Lake Light Sculpture said “After much heartfelt deliberation it was determined by the committee that a safe physical environment for the 2022 edition of Lake Light Sculpture cannot be guaranteed.”

“This is the premier arts event for the Snowy Mountains and a major drawcard for visitors. It attracts high calibre entries from renowned sculptors and is a platform for emerging artists,” she continued.

“With over 25,000 visitors attending Lake Light Sculpture in 2021, it is important to us to deliver a top quality event, in a safe environment, that really showcases the works in a beautiful location. The current water levels in Banjo Paterson Park will not allow this to happen in 2022,” Ms McNair said.

Lake Light Sculpture will be running a series of other events during 2022 and Lake Light Sculpture 2023 dates will be announced at Easter, after consultation with the Snowy Mountains community and the wider arts community.

We thank you for your support and we will be in touch again soon.
