New Trails Announcement
Thredbo Gravity Enters a New Era
In a major announcement set to excite the mountain biking community, Thredbo has confirmed construction is underway on two brand-new gravity trails - a world-class downhill track, its most technical to date and a new modern era intermediate jumps trail.
Downhill Track
Dropping from the top of the Merritts Gondola, this double black diamond trail is designed for advanced riders seeking a steep, raw, and unforgiving descent. The track will carve through rugged, largely untouched alpine terrain, featuring natural rock features, technical sections, and high-speed lines that demand precision and commitment.
The project is being delivered in partnership with Elevation Parks, renowned for creating world-class riding experiences in challenging environments. The result will be a trail that not only pushes riders to their limits but sets a new benchmark for downhill riding & racing in Australia.
“This is more than just a new trail - it’s a return to our roots,” said MTB Business Manager, Tim Windshuttle.
“Downhill has always been part of Thredbo’s DNA, and we’ve been listening closely to the community calling for more technical, gravity-focused terrain. This build delivers exactly that.”
The new trail, opening in early 2027 will also offer a unique spectator experience, running beneath the Merritts Gondola, allowing riders to scope lines from above before dropping in.
Intermediate Jumps Trail
Complementing the downhill build, Thredbo is also constructing a new modern era intermediate jumps line, providing progression opportunities for riders looking to develop their airtime and park riding skills.
Starting in the Cruiser area, this trail will be Thredbo's longest jumps trail to date and will provide a ton of opportunity for airtime with close to 50 jumps on offer before finishing at the Merritts Gondola mid-station.
Set to open on opening day in November 2026, this trail is sure to be a favourite amongst the gravity MTB community.

With a brand-new downhill trail, expanded progression features and a comprehensive suite of benefits, the 2026/27 season is set to be one of Thredbo’s most exciting yet.
As the home of Australia’s most iconic mountain bike events, the resort will once again come alive with the return of crowd favourites including the Cannonball MTB Festival, Australian MTB Interschools and the Thredbo Gravity Series - cementing its status as the country’s premier destination for riding, racing and progression.
Riders can secure their pass now with a $49 deposit and lock in the lowest price before the first increase on May 11.
