WHEN the pandemic started in 2020 prior to the winter snow season many expected the COVID-19 virus would arrive in the mountains in a swift manner.

Yet it has only just materialised now, in September and October 2021 with recent cases in Cooma, Jindabyne and Thredbo forcing the region into lockdown.

The Snowy Monaro lockdown has extended until Monday October 11.

Many people have been tested as a vast list of venues of concern have been identified. The list has lengthened over recent days adding more worry for residents as the venues mentioned are businesses that are well frequented. As more people have migrated through the community and different shops, more venues have been listed.

Now is not the time for any complacency as we have seen how swiftly the virus can spread watching other areas on the daily news. Now is the time to be responsible to your own community and be tested if you have visited any of these venues at times mentioned.

If anyone is experiencing any change in health condition or has symptoms of the virus to please be tested.

Testing clinics in the region has seen steady flow which should continue until the case numbers settle down.

Everyone is urged to do the right thing by their own community, friends and family and limit movements. The majority of people being tested are those who just happened to be at a venue at the wrong time. So limiting your movements could also prevent you from being in a future venue of concern, if there are more still to come.

With the number of cases in our region now increasing to 60, we need to be vigilant.

Anyone who attended these venues is a casual contact and must get tested and self isolate until they receive a negative result. If your date of exposure at this venue occurred in last 4 days, you must get another test on day 5 from the date of exposure. Wear a mask around others and limit your movements until you get another negative result. You should continue to monitor for symptoms and if any symptoms occur, get tested again.
