Safer roads, more efficient networks and better connections will all be delivered thanks to an unprecedented investment in roads and transport in the 2020/21 NSW Budget.

Deputy Premier and Member for Monaro John Barilaro said the Government’s record $33 billion transport budget would drive projects that will serve future generations for years to come.

“Road safety is paramount, which is why I am thrilled to be part of the team delivering record funding for roads and transport,” Mr Barilaro said.
"No matter where you live, everyone should be able to travel safely from A to B. This investment in our region will ensure our local roads receive the attention they deserve.

“Today’s budget delivers $11 million to continue upgrading the Monaro and Kings Highways, both major thoroughfares in our region.

“For those of us living in the Monaro, we know how important these upgrades are. This funding injection will ensure safer journeys, improved productivity and will help stimulate the local economy by creating jobs.

“Today’s budget also makes it clear that the NSW Government is getting on with delivering Dunns Creek Road, a project that wasn’t originally on the agenda until 2041.

“Over the next twelve months we will be acquiring land and getting on with the planning and design of what will be a vital link in our road network, connecting Jerrabomberra and Googong to the Monaro Highway.”

The Monaro will also benefit from the following:

· A share in the accelerated funding for Fixing Local Roads with a total of $312 million state-wide to repair, maintain and seal the roads our communities use every day.

· $108 million towards the Fixing Country Bridges program to replace old timber bridges.

· A significant investment in public transport across the region, including Queanbeyan Train Station

“These investments and projects will not only make journeys safer, faster and more reliable – they will also create and support thousands of jobs as part of the NSW Government’s plan for a prosperous, post-pandemic economy,” Mr Barilaro said.

“I’m also excited to share that this budget guarantees that we will see the Regional Seniors Transport Card renewed in 2021.”
