Bungendore’s Sharon Baxter-Judge is being celebrated today after she was named as Monaro’s Woman of the Year for 2021.

Member for Monaro John Barilaro commended Ms Baxter-Judge on the significant achievement, and acknowledged the advocacy and dedication she has given to the local community.

“Sharon is an unsung hero for the local region and on behalf of the Monaro, I congratulate her on this well-deserved honour,” Mr Barilaro said.

“On top of her work as Editor of The Regional Independent, Sharon has played a key role in getting a number of local events and projects off the ground.

“I met Ms Baxter-Judge more than a decade ago, before I was elected as Member for Monaro. At the time, as President of the Bungendore Public School P&C, Sharon spearheaded a successful campaign against the use of unflued gas heaters in the school.

“She has also spent countless hours organising events including the Bungendore Spring Fair and Bungendore Seniors Festival. Sharon’s passion for the local community is undeniable and she is a very deserving recipient of 2021 Monaro Woman of the Year.”

Ms Baxter-Judge said it was an honour to receive the award after more than 20 years of volunteer work.

“I’m truly humbled by this acknowledgement from John and the community. It is great to be supported by so many incredible individuals and groups,” Ms Baxter-Judge said.

“We have been able to achieve so much for the local region and I’m looking forward to what is ahead.”

Minister for Women Bronnie Taylor congratulated Ms Baxter-Judge and the state’s other Local Woman of the Year Award recipients on the achievement.

“These women are the backbone of their communities, volunteering their time and energy to make a positive difference,” she said.

“I would like to acknowledge their significant efforts to support their local communities and thank them for all the work they do.”

The Local Woman of the Year Awards is an annual program which recognises and celebrates the support women give to their local communities throughout NSW.
