THE Snowy Mountains are living up to their name this morning, with the first snowstorm of the year lashing the resorts and delivering a decent layer of snow across the alpine.

All resorts have reported snow this morning as they kick off their winter promotions. For anyone thinking of a snow holiday, the best deals are always found when booking well in advance.

The team at Perisher downed tools on their summer season projects this morning to enjoy the first snowfall. Around 4cm of fresh snow fell overnight as temperatures dipped to below freezing for a fresh start to end the working week.

Since early morning, Perisher’s snow stake webcam has received much more snow, possibly up to 10cm in total.

“While it’s not quite time to click into your skis or strap on the board just yet, it’s a clear sign that the seasons are changing and winter is on its way!” said Emily Smith, Senior Manager Brand + Experience, Perisher + Australia.

“Following Australia’s best-ever Winter Olympics campaign, excitement is at an all-time high, and this first snowfall is just the beginning.”

Next week, new snowguns will be installed, marking the 20th anniversary year of automated snowmaking at Perisher, and the final preparations for King’s Birthday Opening Weekend will be done.

If you are still considering a Perisher season pass, they will increase the price on April 8, so now is the time to buy.

At Thredbo, they commented, we don’t need to say anything else. It’s already started, as snow fell in the village by mid-morning.

“Fresh snowfall, the mountains waking up and that feeling you get when winter's officially on its way,” said Thredbo.

“Before you know it, it's first chair laps, carving corduroy, leg-burners down Supertrail and those "just one more" runs that turn into a full day. Then it's straight into après...maybe with a few Alpine Coaster laps thrown in for good measure.”

Winter 2026 is incoming, and this is one you won't want to miss!

Thredbo is offering up to 50% off lift passes, plus huge savings across accommodation, rentals, lessons, and more. The earlier you book, the better it gets.

This is only the beginning. The countdown is on!
