Member for Monaro John Barilaro and local MLC Bronnie Taylor today visited the Snowy Mountains Neighbourhood Centre (SMNC) to announce facility upgrades thanks to the NSW Government’s Community Building Partnerships program.

Mr Barilaro said the SMNC plays an important role in Jindabyne, by providing a variety of services that support the community’s wellbeing.

“The SMNC is a one-stop shop for this community. Residents can come here to access library services, technology and free internet, support services and much more,” Mr Barilaro said.

“Thanks to more than $28,200 in funding, work can now begin on the ‘Brighter Life Expansion project’ which will significantly increase opportunities for activities and events to be held at the centre.

“Outdoor umbrellas will be permanently installed while the outdoor area will also be improved, increasing social connectivity in the community.”

Mr Barilaro also took the opportunity to announce funding for Snowy Mountains Grammar School, thanks to the Government’s Community Building Partnerships program.

The school received a $6,342 grant to improve accessibility particularly during winter, by upgrading the steps to sporting field.

Mrs Taylor said these improvements are wonderful news for the Jindabyne community.

“Community spaces like the Snowy Mountains Neighbourhood Centre play an important role in the region, by offering a range services and providing a place where local groups and organisations can come together,”

Mrs Taylor said. “This funding will directly benefit the people of Jindabyne and will deliver new community infrastructure right across the Monaro.”

The Community Building Partnership program has funded more than 15,000 community projects since it commenced in 2009.

Applications for the 2021 Program open in early 2021.
