The Jindabyne Bushpigs rugby union team has started their season in rocky fashion. The defending champions have lost many players to retirement, and others are now playing in Canberra.

Last week, they reversed their fortunes somewhat with a thrashing of the depleted Taralga Tigers side, triumphing 105-5. That was on the back of a bitter loss to arch rivals the Bugendore Mudchooks 76-10 and their first game loss to Cooma Red Devils, who put a score on them courtesy of a runaway second half to win 47-15.

Will they continue the good from last week when they take on the Crookwell Dogs at John Connors on Saturday, May 3….?

Try celebrations.

Their supporters will hope that the young new players, after a few games finding their feet, will also find cohesion and rhythm in their attack and add more steel in their defence.

The team is largely home-grown, most younger players having progressed through the junior ranks.

The team has a large squad, so much so that when Taralga arrived last week with only 10 players, several Bushpigs, plus other Snowy River Bear’s players donned the opposition jumper to help out.

A standout performer last week was Charlie Klemm, who ripped through the middle on several occasions and his big frame busting over for a hat-trick of tries. If he continues in this rich vein of form, setting a strong go forward, hopefully it allows their speedy backline some room to move.
