Communities across the Monaro will benefit from funding dedicated to ensuring the region comes back stronger from the devastating 2019/2020 bushfire season.
Deputy Premier and Member John Barilaro today announced both Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council and Snowy Monaro Regional Council will each receive a payment of $250,000 to promote community wellbeing and disaster resilience in the affected areas.
“Many parts of the Monaro were impacted significantly by last summer’s bushfires and it’s vital all levels of Government work with the community as we continue our recovery,” Mr Barilaro said.
“The $25 million Bushfire Community Recovery and Resilience Fund, which is jointly funded by the State and Federal Governments, builds on the amazing work already undertaken and importantly supports a locally-led recovery.
“Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council will use the grant to lead a Disaster Resilience Action Plan for Braidwood and surrounding areas, focusing on community recovery and wellbeing.
“Snowy Monaro Regional Council will work to build capacity and resilience in the community with an emphasis on supporting youth, volunteer development, community communication and consultation.
“These two very important initiatives will ensure our region has improved capacity and capability to respond to any future disasters.
“The NSW Government is committed to supporting communities on the long road to recovery after last season’s unprecedented bushfires. We know that when it comes to these types of projects locals know best, so we are empowering communities to make best use of this funding.”

Stream 2 of the $25 million Bushfire Community Recovery and Resilience Fund has been extended to ensure that everyone has enough time to apply. Applications for Stream 2 of the program will now be accepted until 12pm on 11 December 2020. Applications can be submitted at www.emergency.nsw.gov.au
