Opening Long Weekend Guide Including 60cm of Snow

The 2025 snow season will launch to snowy and cold weather.

THE snow season will officially kick off this King's long weekend, with snow falling across the entire long weekend. There is a possibility of up to 64cm from Friday night to Tuesday morning.

The snow will be accompanied by strong, cold, blustery winds, resulting in wind chill plummeting well below zero.

Drivers should be cautious as roads will deteriorate with wind-blown snow, snow down to 1100 metres at times, and possibly icy patches.

Motorists will need chains in certain areas, and they should be fitted when advised by authorities. Bring a ground sheet, beanie, gloves and only fit chains in a safe area. Road shoulders may be covered in snow, and you may not know what lies underneath, so caution should be taken when you pull over to fit chains.

Police will be out in force for Operation Snow Safe on the roads and across the region. Highway Patrol will be visible, drive safely, and slowly in the snowy and icy conditions.

Buses are available to the resorts with the Snowy Mountains Bus Service here.

Snowfall Guide:

  • 9cm - Friday night to Saturday 8am
  • 10cm - Saturday 8am to 5pm
  • 18cm - Saturday 5pm to Sunday 8am
  • 9cm - Sunday 8am to 5pm
  • 7cm - Sunday 5pm to Monday 8am
  • 4cm - Monday 8am to 5pm
  • 7cm - Monday 5pm to Tuesday 8am

There is potential for 64cm of accumulated snow to fall from Friday night to Tuesday morning, which, if it delivers its full complement, will be a game changer for resorts.

Operation Snow Safe

Operation Snow Safe begins today (Friday, 6 June 2025) and runs until Monday, 6 October 2025. The high-visibility operation will see a surge in additional police officers from across New South Wales deployed to the Snowy Mountains region, within the Monaro Police District, to keep visitors and locals safe.

With snow expected across the whole weekend, and roads to be busier than normal, NSW Police are warning people to act responsibly on the roads, and while on their holidays.

Officers will be targeting anti-social behaviour, alcohol-related crime in licensed venues, dangerous & distracted driving on roads leading to the snow and risky behaviour on the slopes.
