IS this your season to try cross country skiing and what can you expect if you do?
Ok, the skis are skinny compared to your alpine downhill skis, so you will need to be well balanced but all this and learning technique can be taught.
Just like any other sport where you are a beginner, having lessons is key to get your sliding off to a great start. Once you have a few of the key ingredients, the rewards are plentiful including being able to explore the cross-country trails, absorb the magnificent scenery and isolation and it won’t break the bank with cost, as no lift ticket is required.
To book a lesson, you can call either K7 Adventures or Wilderness Sports who both conduct lessons at Perisher Valley. The Nordic Centre is a short walk from the carpark, you can hire equipment from Wilderness Sports in Jindabyne, or at their Perisher National Parks building shop and you will be off on your new found journey.
Perisher Valley have hundreds of kilometres of trails, the Nordic Centre is well equipped with facilities and with the various loops, you can start with small distances and then work your way up to longer trails.
Visit either www.wildernesssports.com.au or www.k7adventures.com for more lesson details or www.perisherxcountry.org for cross country information.
