EXCITING news for Perisher guests with the resort submitting a Development Application (DA) for a new six seat detachable chairlift on Mt Perisher.
The project is currently with NSW Planning and if (and when) this project is approved it would see the removal of the old double and triple chairs, and the new chair built in their place. It is proposed that the new six seat chair take a very similar line to the current triple chair.
Plans for the lift show that it will also be installed higher than where the existing double chair unloads, which would give the resort bragging rights for the highest lifted point in Australia. The expected height of the top station is 2042m. Currently Thredbo has the highest lifted point with Karels T-bar at 2037m.
From a user point of view this would be a very welcomed and key lift in the scheme of the Perisher lift network. Mt Perisher is one of the most popular areas in the resort.
The hierarchy at Perisher Resort are always fastidious in their submissions and consider all detail to meet high environmental expectations of an alpine region. There would already have been strong consultation with the National Parks, so it is hoped the DA has good grounds to be approved without too many roadblocks.
The chairlift will dramatically reduce the ride time to below 6 minutes, a far cry from the old slower double chair that was installed in the early 1960’s.
