Hot and windy weather greeted spectators and competitors for the annual Jindabyne Man from Snowy River Rodeo, but that did not deter from a full afternoon of action.

The cowboys were in good form and in the usual rodeo game of cowboy versus time and beast, there were mixed results with the bulls nearly having a clean sweep and the broncs being outdone with some great rides.

In the Open Bull Ride the bulls outclassed the cowboys and were determined that no rider would last the 8 seconds. Some came close but most cowboys hit the dirt well before their allotted time with the strength of the bulls too much on this occasion. In one of the toughest sports in the world credit is due just to strap in at the chute, let alone ride the 8 seconds.

Such was the determination of bulls to be centre stage, they were even stubborn to leave the ring before local Tyrepower owner Ian Arnold entered the ring and crackled the whip. A huge shout out should also be paid the the "rodeo clowns", or protection athletes as they are referred who jumped in on numerous occasions when the bulls threatened the riders.

Novice Bull Ride
1st Lachlan Little 79

Lachlan Little was the only cowboy on the day to ride a bull, with a nice 79 point ride in the Novice Bull Ride. Local rider Jayden Miners who won in Gundagai recently did not fare as well this time, nor did his cousin Clayton Miners who also fell foul of the bull's determination.

The cowboys fared better against the broncs with Mark Redmond winning the Open Saddle Bronc, Harry Ash winning the Bareback and a three way first place in the Novice Saddle Bronc. In the Poly Buck Jump, a few riders ate the dirt with heavy unexpected falls, with Dwayne Grealey edging out William Fitzgerald.

In recent years there have been a few more ladies entries into the steer and bull riding events, with Jessica Wisemantel showing determination in both events, plus winning the Ladies Steer Ride against Maddie Banks. Jessica may well need a new pair of jeans as she was sporting a cheeky rip on the rear end.

For the junior events, the young cowboys and cowgirls managed to hold their own although there was some dust eaten as the steers bucked off their riders, all part of the learning curve for these youngsters.

The barrel race is always entertaining and the horsemanship shown by riders is amazing. In the novice events the horses are often raw and new to the sport, and the open races are just all out speed, skill and agility of both horse and rider.

The Novice Barrel Race went to Michelle Potter with a cracking time of 14.04 plus Michelle also won the Ladies Barrel Race with a faster time of 13.86, edging out Cooma's Michelle O'Neill.
