Thredbo To Dead Horse Gap Tour

LOOKING for an adventure to explore beyond the boundary ropes with the comfort of knowing you are in good hands. Thredbo’s Dead Horse Gap tour will tick all your exploring boxes and the serenity of the trip leaving a lasting memory and a tale to tell your friends.

Be guided from the top of Thredbo through the iconic snowgums and emerge hours later at Dead Horse Gap. Then be whisked back to the resort in style with your personal chauffer driving a Land Rover Defender.

The beauty of this backcountry adventure is its virtually all downhill, bar some flat sections, where the relative isolation is a key element of the tour. Time the day right with fresh powder and you will have a new bucket list day in the alpine as you float through gentle powder fields and weave among the trees.

The tour runs for three hours with your meeting point at the bottom of Valley Terminal at the trail map sign. From here you ride the Kosciuszko Express chair, then access the t-bars to Australia’s highest lifted point.

Now the journey takes on the extra excitement of cruising beyond the rope line into the wilderness. With the comfort of the guide navigating you in the right direction, you will cruise for approximately 3km along a ridge line high above the Thredbo River and the adjacent Bogong Creek down to the road at Dead Horse Gap.

Suited to upper intermediate and advanced skiers and snowboarders, the terrain is not overly difficult, but it is all off-piste, meaning there are no groomed runs here. With an experienced guide showing you the way, plus advising on safety aspects on the backcountry, you will feel totally at ease even if you are experiencing the backcountry for the first time. Included in the trip is an avalanche beacon, shovel and probe in your North Face backcountry pack.

The tours have been filling up fast from the start of the winter so jump in and book what will be a memorable experience. Tours run from Thursday through Sundays from August 3 to September 10.
