Snowy Classic to hit the roads with over 1200 cyclists

The latest cycling Gran Fondo to join The Classics by Bicycling Australia national cycling series roster, the Snowy Classic, will make its debut in the Snowy Mountains on Saturday, 26 March 2022.

Riders from across Australia will soon descend to Jindabyne to take on one of two courses- the 170km Maxi Classic or 110km Challenge Classic- both showcasing the best of the Snowy Mountains region. Offering a true European-style cycling experience, the courses will operate on fully closed roads (rolling closures) and extend from Jindabyne to Hilltop, Rocky Plain, Berridale, Dalgety, Beloka and Perisher Valley.

NSW Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney Stuart Ayres said the NSW Government was proud to support the Snowy Classic from 2022 until 2026, with the event expected to inject $4.16 million into the State’s economy across the five-year period.

“We know the regional visitor economy is critically important to the wellbeing of NSW, which is why the NSW Government is supporting the Snowy Classic over five years to build a strong following and make it an annual must-attend event for cyclists and their families and friends,” Mr Ayres said.

“This will help the local visitor economy to grow and push us toward our target in the NSW Visitor Economy Strategy 2030 for regional overnight visitor expenditure to reach $25 billion.

“Visitors will be blown away by the stunning scenery and excellent tourism and hospitality offerings of the region – register now and start planning your itinerary through VisitNSW.com.”

Riders will depart from Kosciuszko Rd, Jindabyne (opposite Banjo Paterson Park) between 7:00am – 8:00am on Saturday, 26 March, and pass through the Finish Line in the same location between 10:30am – 6:00pm. There will be rolling road closures throughout the Snowy Mountains region on the event day of Saturday 26 March. Locals are encouraged to stay off the roads when possible and be mindful of cyclists. Full road closure details are available online at www.snowyclassic.com.au/community.

Want in on the action? Come down to the Event Village at Town Centre Carpark, Jindabyne (opposite Banjo Paterson Park) on Saturday, 26 March between 10:30am – 6:00pm to cheer on the riders as they pass through the Finish Line. There will be something for everyone - gourmet food stalls, beer and wine bar, live music, exhibitor stalls and more.

A special thank you to Destination NSW, Snowy Monaro Council, Tourism Snowy Mountains, Department of Transport and Main Roads, NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service, and NSW Police for their ongoing support and assistance.
